Essential Functions
Ahoy! Join our crew this season as a Bartender. This seasonal position is perfect for those looking to gain experience in bartending and the hospitality and tourism industries, all while supporting our two National Historic Landmarks—the Belle of Louisville and Life Saving Station #10—as well as our third vessel, Mary M. Miller. As a member of the Food & Beverage Team, you will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks, such as mixing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages onboard cruises, arranging liquor bottles for display and much more. No experience? No worries! Training is provided.
Responsibilities
- Mix and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages following standard recipes.
- Prepare bar area prior to each cruise, including removing bottles from liquor cabinet and arranging them for display, chill beer and wine in refrigerator, stocking supplies, etc.
- Slice and peel fruit and place items in container for garnishing drinks.
- Clean and sanitize counters and bar area, wash utensils and equipment and polish brass.
- Operate and verify cash drawer, including balancing contents at beginning and end of each shift, totaling prices and receiving payments, recording sales on summary log sheet, etc.
- Cross-trained to work in concessions, photos and souvenir retail (if needed).
- Perform related work and other duties as assigned.
Examples of Work
- Takes orders from customers and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
- Verifies cash drawer upon reporting to work. Operates a cash register to total price on drinks purchased by customers, receives payment from customers and makes change.
- Mixes ingredients such as liquor, tonic, soda, water, triple sec, bitters and ice to prepare cocktails, liquors and other drinks following standard recipes.
- Slices and peels fruit and places items in container for garnishing drinks.
- Serves wine and bottled beer, draws draft beer from kegs, and operates frozen drink machine.
- At end of shift removes money and records sales on summary log sheet. Replenishes beginning cash drawer money and meets with Purser to reconcile register tape with deposit.
- Informs Purser of additional cash needs during cruise. Also, notifies Purser of cash register and cash register tape problems.
- Removes bottles from liquor cabinet, arranges bottles for display, chills beer and wine in refrigerator, obtains ice, stocks cup and napkin supplies, and cash register tape.
- Cleans and sanitizes counters and bar area, washes utensils and equipment, and polishes brass.
- Performs related work and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
- Three months of bartender experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- Must have excellent customer relation skills.
- Requires the physical ability to move and life heavy items up to 50lbs to 75lbs.
- Must work varied schedule.
- Ability to tolerate hot and cold environments.
- Able to transit stairs.
- Able to stand – continuous up to 5 hours during a cruise.

- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- Willing to work varied schedule, which may include mornings, evenings and holidays
- Must wear safety equipment as mandated by the U.S Coast Guard.
- Submit to and pass alcohol and drug test as mandated by the USCG including (but not limited to) pre-employment, random and post-accident testing.
- Able to tolerate hot and cold environments.
- Able to transit stairs.
Pay & Benefits
- Starting pay beginning at $16/hour
